There is no place like home for the holidays.
Younger kids are counting the days eagerly anticipating their winter break. Many college campuses have already finished up their semesters. But for one 19 year old student at Kentucky State University, there will be no happy holiday homecoming.

Yesterday, De'Jon Darrell Fox Jr., of Indianapolis was killed and another student was critically injured in a shooting on campus. The suspect is in custody. Officials say it wasn’t random, and that there is no ongoing threat.

But for many, that language rings hollow.
A student was murdered at school—by a gun—again. The outcome, one more empty chair at a dinner table. No festive celebration. Grieving parents and relatives whose lives are forever scarred by this senseless tragedy.

Gavin, one of our young Will You Hear Me Now? team members reflected on how moments like this land—not as headlines, but as the painful realization that someone his age who went to class Tuesday morning won't going home for Christmas.

Young people are expected to keep studying, keep showing up, keep moving forward—while quietly scanning rooms and exits, just in case.

At Will You Hear Me Now?, we listen to young people and what they keep telling us is we have to do better.
